Consulting Committee of the EuroAsian Economic Commission approved draft Customs Union Technical Regulations for Alcohol and Tobacco Products

Two Customs Union Technical Regulations (CUTRs) setting out safety requirements for of alcohol and tobacco products were approved by the Consulting Committee of the EuroAsian Economic Commission.  The approved documents will be submitted to the Customs Union member states for inter-state approval. After this procedure they will be submitted back to the EuroAsian Economic Commission (EEC) where they will be considered by the EEC Council in order for it to take a decision on their adoption.

Customs Union Technical Regulation on the Safety of Alcohol Products contains requirements to alcohol products as well as manufacturing processes, storage, transportation, distribution, recycling and disposal of alcohol products.

Customs Union Technical Regulation on Tobacco Products applies to all tobacco products released into the Customs Union market except tobacco products made in the Customs Union territory specifically for export to a non-CU country.

Once they are adopted, the manufacturers, suppliers and importers of alcohol and tobacco products will have to comply with the requirements of these two CUTRs (subject to a certain transitional period).
