EAEU: Proposal to decrease the share of phosphoric compounds in synthetic detergents

Manufacturers and importers of synthetic detergents and water softeners (including those intended for washing clothing and products intended for children) may be required to comply with additional restrictions on the share of phosphoric compounds in such detergents and softeners.

Draft Decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission Collegium aims to amend Chapter II of the Common sanitary and epidemiological and hygienic requirements for products subject to sanitary and epidemiological surveillance (adopted by Decision No. 299).

If the amendments are adopted, synthetic detergents and water softeners will be required to contain no more than 0,5% of phosphoric compounds (currently – no more than 17% and no more than 30% respectively).

The above restrictions would be subject to a transitional period which, according to the proposal, will end on 1 January 2020.

The intended date of adoption is not currently determined.
