Russia acts to ease the embargo on Hungary and Greece for fruits and berries

Russia intends to ease the food embargo for Greece and Hungary by excluding certain products from the “black list”. The products are likely to include peaches, strawberries, nectarines and cherries.

The Ministry of Economic Development envisages three ways for relaxing the food embargo. The first is to exclude certain product codes from the “black list” completely and to allow the import of these products into Russia from any country. The second is to ease the embargo only for selected countries and the third is to permit the countries interested in supplying their products to Russia install facilities which would process their products in Russia.

Also, the specialists from the agriculture supervising agency (Rosselkhoznadzor) have commenced inspections of a number of dairy and meat industry facilities in Greece, Cyprus and Hungary. The inspections are conducted with an aim to further ease the embargo and to allow import of some dairy and meat products into Russia.
