Russia is back with the TIR Convention

The Russian authorities are restoring the transit procedure for vehicle cargo transportation with the use of TIR Carnets. This procedure was restricted by the Federal Customs Service in 2013.

Russia has now confirmed that it has abandoned its plans to pull out of the TIR Convention. This decision is due not only by the numerous complaints from the Russian transporters and the pressure from international organizations, but rather the problems the restriction has created for the movement of goods within the Eurasian Economic Union.

On 13 June 2015 the Direction of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on Ensuring of Continuity of the Implementation of the TIR Convention in the EEU Territory entered into force.
