EAEU: Revised list of toy safety standards

As of December 4, toy manufacturers and importers are to use a revised list of standards that give a presumption of conformity with the EAEU Technical Regulation TR CU 008/2011 "On the safety of toys" was officially published.

The EAEU Technical Regulation CU 008/2011 "On the safety of toys" applies in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.

The updated list contains 32 standards the voluntary use of which ensures compliance with the requirements of the technical regulation on toy safety.

Amendments have been made to the list of test methods, including sampling rules, as follows:

-          10 items have been withdrawn;

-          8 standards have been added;

-          17 items have been added in a new version.

The amended list of standards (adopted by EEC Board Decision 136) will come into force on January 3, 2025. It is important to note: the EEC Board Decision 136 applies to products placed on the market from November 26, 2024.

The updated list standardizes approaches to checking the safety of toys, excluding outdated methods and introducing modern solutions. The inclusion of new positions indicates the harmonization of the regulations with current international practices and the introduction of the latest testing methods aimed at ensuring the physical, chemical and mechanical safety of toys. The updated standards take into account modern and innovative materials and technologies that are currently used for toy manufacture.
