EAEU: Clarified how GMO-containing food is to be labelled

Starting from 26 December 2018 manufacturers and importers of food produced with the use of GMOs must mark such products with a special sign saying “GMO” next to the common EAEU mark of conformity (EAC mark). The GMO sign must have the same form and size as the EAC mark.

If the manufacturer did not use genetically modified organisms in food production, then the content of GMOs in food is 0.9 percent or less is an accidental or technically unrecoverable admixture, and such food products are not considered as GMO-containing food. For this type of food, the information on the presence of GMO materials does not have to be indicated.
