EAEU: Draft Plan for the Development of Inter-state Standards Necessary to Implement the EAEU RoHS

Draft Decision was published on 30 June 2017 that aims to adopt the program for developing interstate standards that containing rules and methods for tests, research and measurements (including sample taking rules) necessary for the implementation of the requirements of the EAEU Technical Regulation on Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (TR EAEU 037/2016).

Draft decision provides a list of standards that are to be developed and adopted. For each standard that is to be developed, the list indicates the member state responsible for the development and the timeframe for the development of such a standard.

The standards (8 in total) will be developed on the basis of the existing IEC standards. The standards will allow to determine the level of mercury, lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybromobiphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers, phthalic acid esters, etc. in a number of electrotechnical products, including domestic appliances, TVs, etc.

The standards included into the list prescribe a number of methods for detecting the level of the mentioned substances in EEE. These methods include the use of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, spectroscopy (CVAAS), etc.

If adopted, the draft Decision will enter into force 30 calendar days after its official publication.
