EAEU: Draft Technical Regulation on the safety of poultry meat and products made of poultry meat

If adopted, the Technical Regulation (TR) would apply to manufacturers and importers of poultry meat and poultry meat products, such as finished and semi-finished products made of poultry meat, poultry meat protein, stock and sausages etc.

The Technical Regulation would also impose requirements for the manufacturing process, storage, transportation, sale and disposal/utilization of poultry meat and poultry meat products.

Among other things, the draft TR would impose microbiological restrictions on poultry meat and meat products (e.g. restrictions on the count of Listeria monocytogenes, E. Coli, etc.). The draft TR separately sets more stringent microbiological requirements for baby food and food for children.

The draft TR also imposes restrictions on the content of heavy metals and hazardous substances in poultry meat and meat products. The regulated substances include lead, cadmium, arsenic, copper, pesticides, DDT, etc.

A transitional period for implementing this Technical Regulation will be provided but the details are not clear at the current stage.
