Ukraine: Draft Amendment to Food Labelling Regulations

Draft amendments to the food labelling regulations propose approval of procedure and special requirements for the labelling of food products, as well as the list of food products for which it is mandatory to indicate the country of origin or place of origin.

EAEU: Draft amendments to the Customs Union Technical Regulation “On Safety of Food Products”

EAEU is discussing the amendment to the TR on Food Safety (the TR) that have been developed in accordance with the Mandate of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council No. 12 of 17 July 2020.

The Amendments would establish the maximum permissible levels of residues of veterinary medicines (pharmacologically active substances), which can be contained in both unprocessed and processed food products of animal origin.

Kazakhstan: Rules for the importation, production and distribution of non-iodised salt

As of 3 December 2020, importers, manufacturers and distributors of non-iodised salt are required to comply with the adopted set of rules. The rules restrict the use of non-iodised salt with the purpose of prevention of iodine deficiency in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Rules say that the importation, production and sale of non-iodised salt in Kazakhstan is only allowed for:

Uzbekistan: Adopted Technical Regulation on Oils and Fats

As of 18 November 2020, organisations importing, or manufacturing oil and fat products in Uzbekistan are required to comply with revised requirements on the safety of oils and fats imposed by Uzbekistan Technical Regulation on the Safety of Oils and Fats.

Ukraine: Revised Maximum Levels of Certain Contaminants in Food

As of 4 February 2021, food manufacturers and importers that the concentration levels of certain contaminating substances in food do not exceed the revised limits.

The revised limits were adopted by Order № 1238 of 22 May 2020 on Amendments to the State Hygienic Rules and Norms "Regulation on Maximum Levels of Certain Contaminants in Food Products". This Order amends the Ministry of Health Order № 368 of 13 May 2013 on the Approval of State Hygienic Rules and Norms.

Ukraine: Revised requirements for the official “organic product” logo

As of 14 August 2020, manufacturers and importers of organic food (agricultural products) in Ukraine that is marketed as “organic” must ensure that the “organic” logo they are placing on these products is conformant with the revised Technical Description of the Organic Logo.

The Technical Description of the Organic Logo was adopted by Order No. 67 dated 22 February 2019 and amended by Order No. 1336 of 15 July 2020.

Ukraine: Law on Organic Food Production, Circulation and Labelling

Manufacturers and importers of “organic” food are required, as of 2 August 2019, to comply with the provisions of the Law on organic food production and labelling if they are intending to place organic products on the Ukrainian market.

“Organic products” are defined as agricultural products, including food and feedstuffs manufactured during organic food production process.

EAEU: Food must be marked with a “GMO” sign

As of 26 June 2020, all food manufactured or imported into the EAEU (Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan) must be marked with a “GMO” sign if it was manufactured with the use of genetically modified organisms.
